Is your child starting to feel the jitters as their first holiday camp approaches? You're not alone! This kind of nervousness is completely normal, especially for younger children.

Children often feel uneasy when they don’t know what to expect. The idea of stepping into a new environment, adjusting to unfamiliar routines, and meeting lots of new faces can feel overwhelming. But with a little preparation, you can help ease their worries and set them up for a fun and fulfilling experience.

Holiday camps are more than just a way to spend school breaks. They’re packed with meaningful and holistic EDUventures - opportunities to to learn new skills, discover hobbies, take part in experiential learning experiences without too much pressure, make new friends and grow in confidence in a supportive and safe environment.

Here are some simple ways to help your child feel ready and excited for their first camp adventure:

📸 SHOW THEM PHOTOS

A picture speaks a thousand words! Browse through our website and social media together to explore the kinds of activities your child will enjoy at camp. If you’ve got photos from your school camps, share your stories and experiences too - these moments can help your child feel reassured and excited to create their own memories.

📅 LOOK AT WHAT’S ON THE SCHEDULE

Go through the camp’s daily routines and planned activities together. your child sees that water play, their favourite sport, or a creative workshop is on the agenda, they’ll be much more eager to join in!

🎒 PACK TOGETHER

Use a child-friendly packing list and involve your child in getting ready. Make sure that their belongings are well-labeled and in good working condition (no leaky water bottles!). Let them choose a few snacks or lunchbox items, having something familiar and fun to look forward to can make a big difference.

🤝SHARE TIPS ABOUT MAKING FRIENDS AND POSITIVE BEHAVIOURS

Holiday camps bring together children from different schools, and sometimes even different countries! Reading bedtime stories about friendship and kindness can help your child feel more confident about meeting new people and encourage positive social behaviours that lead to lasting memories.

🔐 BONUS TIP FOR CAMP BEAUMONT PARENTS!

If your child is attending one of our Camp Beaumont Asia programmes, here’s an extra tip just for you:

  • We take safety seriously, from strict safeguarding policies and thorough staff training to maintaining a strong staff-to-child ratio and conducting risk assessments across all areas.
  • To ensure a smooth and secure pick-up process, please remember the password you provided during booking. Our camp team will check this password at dismissal to make sure every child is picked up safely.
  • If you’re unsure of your password, please speak to our staff during morning drop-off on your child’s first day.

Preparing your child for camp is most effective when it’s a team effort between home and camp. Ensuring a positive and smooth transition for new experiences can empower and support our children to grow, learn and enjoy what camps have to offer to the fullest potential.

So… are you ready for camp? 🎉

Thank you so much for having our daughter at your summer camp. She was very excited when she returned and enthusiastically showed and told us everything she did at camp. Many thanks to the whole team for looking after her, the varied and lovely programme and the nice and warm atmosphere at camp.
